I am trying to upload a file but it keeps timing out. Why is this happening?

You will generally get a time-out error or your file upload will stall if the file you are trying to upload is very large over a slow connection.

The file upload feature in the Administration area of the website permits a maximum file upload size of 10MB, however, if your Internet connection upload speed is slow (consistently under 256KBps) then you may find that your file is taking a long time to upload or it fails to upload due to a time-out.

The upload of files via the Content Management System works differently to cloud storage systems like dropbox.com and other similar ones. As the upload of files in the CMS are over a HTTP connection, this can be subject to connection breaks and there is no facility to resume upload.

Files such as PDFs can quite often be optimised for the Internet and this will make the file upload faster. Check your PDF output settings for quality or request the creator of the PDF to send you a PDF optimised for file size. Other type of files can also be optimised. Please check the settings of the program you use to manage those files.
