Using the Rich Text Editor

Whether editing text on an existing page or creating a new page, this guide will show you all the functions of the icons when using the Rich Text Editor to edit the website. This guide is split into 2 parts:

A. Editing text on a webpage

B. Editing text on a eMarketing communication
 

The Rich Text Editor is different in eMarketing as there are restrictions as to what can be sent out in an email. For example you can send out a personalised email e.g "Hi Joe Bloggs" in the eMarketing area.

Step-by-Step Instructions

A. Editing text on a webpage

  1. Login to your administration website
  2. Find and click to edit your webpage or Click Add New to add in a new page.
  3. Click onto an area where there is place holding text (other than a heading)
  4. On the top row you have (L-R):
    1. Format Options - This allows to opt for a different style of font for headings and subheadings. Simply insert a line (hit Enter) above and below the paragraph or line you would like to edit, click on the text you want to change and select your preferred style from the drop down menu. Delete unnecessary page breaks from above and below the text
    2. Font - Allows changes to the font for a highlighted section of text
    3. Font size - Allows to size up or down highlighted text
    4. Font Colour - Allows colour changes for highlighted text
    5. Bold - Option to bold highlighted text
    6. Italics - Option to italicise highlighted text
    7. Underline - Option to underline highlighted text
    8. Undo - Undo last action (s)
    9. Redo - Redo last actions (s)
    10. Paste from Microsoft Word - Paste into this window to allow some formatting such as indents, to flow through from Word to this text editor
    11. Insert Image - Click this then the upload tab in order to browse and upload an image in your text area
    12. Edit/Insert Flash - Ability to upload a flash file (file format must be .swf) and change parameters
    13. Video - Click to add in Vimeo or YouTube video by adding URL link, and edit size of video player
    14. Social Media Plugins - This button will allow you to insert Facebook, Twitter, Google + and Pinterest plug ins (if enabled)
  5. On the second row you have (L-R)
    1. Find/ Find and Replace - Find/ Find and replace based on case and or whole word
    2. Select All - Will select all text within the module you are typing in
    3. Remove Format - This feature strips back the text into basic form, however keeps any links
    4. Ordered List - This feature will insert numbered points
    5. Unordered list - This feature will insert bullet points
    6. Indent Left - This will push all highlighted text over to the left
    7. Indent Right - This will push all highlighted text over to the right
    8. Align Left - Aligns all highlighted text to float on the left-hand side of the available area
    9. Center Align - Aligns all highlighted text to float in the middle of the available area
    10. Align Right - Aligns all highlighted text to float on the right-hand side of the available area
    11. Justify - Aligns highlighted text, so the first word aligns with the left margin and last word with the right margin
    12. Link - Add in link to a page in your website, another website, a file, or an email
    13. Remove Link - Remove link in text area for the selected link
    14. Anchor Links - For long pages create links to other areas on the page (Advanced users)
    15. Table - Insert a table with specified number of columns and rows, as well as other settings like width and spacing
    16. Insert Horizontal Line - Insert a line to separate content
    17. Special Characters - Insert special characters like Copyright © and Registered ® symbols
    18. View Source Code - Transform text into editable code (Advanced users)
    19. Click Done
    20. Click Finish
Styling font: It is recommended to not use different styles of font unnecessarily as this will lead the general look and feel of the website to look unprofessional. If you are copying and pasting form an external source into your webpages, it is recommended to strip the text back to a basic format (using the Remove Format button) so all the text will remain consistent on the site.

 

B. Editing text on a eMarketing communication

  1. Login to your administration website
  2. Find and click to edit your eMarketing communication or Click Add New Communication.
  3. Click onto an area where there is place holding text (other than a heading)
  4. On the top row you have (L-R):
    1. Format Options - This allows to opt for a different style of font for headings and subheadings. Simply insert a line (hit Enter) above and below the paragraph or line you would like to edit, click on the text you want to change and select your preferred style from the drop down menu. Delete unnecessary page breaks from above and below the text
    2. Bold - Option to bold highlighted text
    3. Italics - Option to italicise highlighted text
    4. Insert Image - Click this then the upload tab in order to browse and upload an image in your text area
    5. Table - Insert a table determining columns and rows, as well as other settings like width and spacing
    6. Insert Horizontal Line - Insert a line to separate content
    7. Undo - Undo last action (s)
    8. Redo - Redo last actions (s)
    9. Paste from Microsoft Word - Paste into this window to allow some formatting such as indents, to flow through from Word to this text editor.
    10. Personalisation - Ability to add in customised greeting using fields setup in the Client area
  5. On the second row you have (L-R)
    1. Ordered List - This feature will insert numbered points
    2. Unordered list - This feature will insert bullet points
    3. Indent Left - This will push all highlighted text over to the left
    4. Indent Right - This will push all highlighted text over to the right
    5. Align Left - Aligns all highlighted text to float on the left-hand side of the available area
    6. Center Align - Aligns all highlighted text to float in the middle of the available area
    7. Align Right - Aligns all highlighted text to float on the right-hand side of the available area
    8. Justify - Aligns highlighted text, so the first word aligns with the left margin and last word with the right margin
    9. Link - Add in link to a page in your website, another website, a file, or an email
    10. Remove Link - Remove link in text area for the selected link
    11. View Source Code - Transform text into editable code (Advanced users)
    12. Click Done
    13. Click Finish
